On July 28th, 1965 President Johnson gave a press conference devoted to the Vietnam war. During the conference, he stated the "United States intended to convince the Communists that we cannot be defeated by force of arms or by superior power.” He also announced that he was ordering the deployment of an additional 50,000 troops to Vietnam.
