Spotlight on: The Rolex Jubilee Dial. Getting to know Rolex’s anniversary dial.
Rolex is known for its timeless designs that slowly evolve through the decades. However, when a Rolex model reaches an important milestone, Rolex does tend to loosen up and introduces unexpected designs.
Rolex has surprised us with anniversary watches in the past — like the green Rolex Submariner Kermit, and the ice blue and chestnut brown Rolex 50th Anniversary Platinum Daytona.
Before these came along, Rolex also created a commemorative Jubilee Dial.

Under Rolex lexicon, the “Jubilee” is best known as the five-piece, semi-circular bracelet, or what is often considered the dressier counterpart of the Oyster.
The bracelet design was created especially for the iconic Rolex Datejust, which Rolex launched in 1945, to celebrate their 40th or Jubilee anniversary.
Fast forward to 1985, Rolex was about to celebrate its 80th anniversary, while the Datejust was also about to turn 40.
Rolex commemorated this milestone with a special ‘Jubilee’ dial design.
The Jubilee Dial is characterized by a monogrammed repetitive ‘Rolex’ pattern, which takes up the entirety of the dial.
At times, it will have just the watch’s name on it - Datejust, for example - while some watches would have the standard SCOC “Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified” text, above 6 o’clock.
It’s also found on watches with an assortment of metals — from stainless steel, gold, and Rolesor steel and gold.
It’s also available in many colors – from classic black, white, champagne, and silver;
to more eye-catching bronze, rose, and blue.
It is also accompanied by different hour markers, from Roman and Arabic numerals to batons and diamonds.
The dial is also iridescent, changing its color when the light hits it. Depending on where it’s viewed, it can be bold and eye-catching, and sometimes incredibly subtle.
Rolex has a wide assortment of textured dials, often found on their dress watches. There are ones made of materials like wood or gemstones; then there are honeycomb, linen, and even pyramid patterns.
The Jubilee Dials featuring the stylized Rolex pattern may not be for everyone.
However, they remain a popular choice for those who want a piece of Rolex history, or want something uniquely Rolex… to add to their watch collection.
