Following the Transatlantic Economic Council's decision to promote electric vehicles and smart grid interoperability, on 29 October 2015 the European Commission inaugurated a dedicated state-of-the-art laboratory in Ispra (Italy), operated by the JRC. Vladimír Šucha, Director General of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre invited Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for the Energy Union and John MacWilliams, Associate Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy to inaugurate the new facilities.
