Welcome to Wyoming, where adventure awaits! Visiting a Cabin made out of Dinosaur Bones, the UFO Landing Site at Intergalactic Spaceport, and even Jesse James' Hideout. Wyoming has plenty to offer. But before you set out, let's make sure you know what not to do.
1. It's Illegal to Take Photos of Rabbits!
Snap happy? Watch out! In Wyoming, it's against the law to take a picture of a rabbit from January to April without a permit! No one really knows why this silly rule even exists. Maybe it's to protect bunnies from too many camera flashes? Who knows? Just make sure you have a permit before you start snapping away!
2. Don’t Expect Phone Coverage
Ah, the wide open plains of Wyoming! It's a land of endless horizons. So beware, city slickers! Cell service can be spotty out here in the wild west. If you're planning on using your trusty phone to navigate, make sure you download those maps before you hit the road. And don't forget to pack a trusty road map. It's always good to have a backup plan.
3. Don't take photos of trash!
Another silly law in Wyoming is that it's now a crime to take pictures of the condition of the environment and share them with the government. Who knew taking a picture of trash could land you in hot water? But fear not! The law is just trying to protect polluters from being caught red handed. So, just make sure you're not sharing your photos with the government and you'll be fine!
4. Don't Drink and Ski
Ready to hit the slopes, but thinking about bringing a flask or a cold one along for the ride? Think again! Skiing and snowboarding are a lot like driving, and alcohol doesn't mix well with either. In Wyoming, skiing or snowboarding under the influence of alcohol is a misdemeanor and can land you in jail for up to 20 days.
5. Don't Drink and Mine
Did you know that Wyoming is the nation's largest producer of coal? With over 12 mines, it's a big part of the state's economy. However, if you were caught drinking inside one of these dark, dirty and downright dangerous places, you could be facing up to a year in a very similar place: jail.
6. Don't Spit!
Spitting on walls, floors, and steps of public buildings is not allowed. Even if you're a baseball player and you're used to spitting on the diamond, in Wyoming, it's illegal. So, keep your spit to yourself and let's keep the public buildings clean and hygienic.
7. Don't Tattoo a Horse!
Okay, so this probably isn't something you're going to do whilst on vacation, but then again...
Branding was invented so that if cattle were stolen, they could be identified. Today, valuable horses can be tattooed to protect them from horse rustlers. But in Wyoming, it's illegal to tattoo a horse if your intent is to make the animal unrecognizable to its owner.
8. Don’t Forget Sun Screen
Wyoming's got it all, and the sun is no exception! With elevation ranges from 6,000 to 10,000 feet above sea level, the sun can be very strong. So, make sure to pack your sunscreen and a hat! Whether you're out hiking, biking or simply enjoying the great outdoors, good sun protection is a must.
9. Don’t Expect Budget Prices in Jackson
While Wyoming is generally an affordable state, Jackson is an exception. Since the rich and famous have targeted it as a remote getaway, real estate, lodging, activities, and eating out, everything comes at a premium. So, be prepared to pay top dollar for that taste of the wild west.
Wyoming is a state where you can truly experience the wild west. So now you know what NOT to do, we hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip.
