Visiting my Ancestral Temple - As Ancient as Kedarnath | Gaura Devi Mandir | Raj Rajeshwari Temple
Devalgarh is not only the place of divinity but also the part of the history of Uttarakhand. The place is situated in Pauri district. It is about 19 km from Srinagar Garhwal. Devalgarh a different significance in the history of Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand in ancient times was divided into 52 smaller Frontier Province, the fortress was known and named these the Garhwal region called the God’s Own. Chandpur stronghold throne in the 14th century when King Ajaypal Devlgarh so they are very safe place, which was strategically, built its capital in 1512. In Year 1512 King Ajay Pal built Rajrajeshwari devi temple. King came here from Chandpur Garh. Chandpur Garh is at Chamoli, Uttarakhand. After few years the capital is shifted to Srinagar. But the king’s court often held in Devalgarh Temple Uttarakhand. This the place where king takes the decision and the convicted are hanged.
Gaura Devi (also known as Goddess Parvati) temple is of 7th Century and as old as Badrinath and Kedarnath temples built by Adi Shankaracharaya. It is also said King Deval of Kangra built the temple. Behind the temple is a cave and samadhi of Sathyanath. Sathyanath is from Natha Samprayadaya. Close to cave is Kaal Bhairav dhuni. Every year in April, on the day of Baisakhi, people follow traditional ritual which include praising Maa Gaura and organise a huge fair. Pillars of the temples constructed by one stone with no joints. It is an Impressive architect tradition in history.
Maa Raj Rajeshwari is Kuldevi of Garhwal king Panwar dynasty and many Garhwali dynasties. Temple is situated inside the palace of King Ajaypal. The Palace had three big portions. Every portion was four floors high. There were stone overhanging eves (chhajja) and their bases were made artistically. It is said that wood was not used in building palace. The window nets were made by cutting stone. The door nets were also made by stone as wooden window.
