Platform engineering's must-haves are internal developer portals — sometimes called internal developer platforms or software catalogs. But what do you need to manage these IDPs? In this episode of The New Stack Demos, Zohar Einy, co-founder and CEO of Port, showed Heather Joslyn, host for TNS, how his company's no-code platform for developer portals works.
Because Port integrates with a number of DevOps technologies, including Bitbucket, GitHub, Jira and PagerDuty, it works with Infrastructure as Code providers like Terraform and Pulumi to collect data from those services. Users can then customize dashboards that give developers the information they need to build and maintain their applications — including relevant ReadMe docs and OpenAPI specs.
Einy demonstrated the Port features that platform teams and the devs they serve as likely to find useful, such as the ability to create a "software scorecard" that will users to set rules to ensure code build standards — and automate a build fail if that code doesn't comply with those rules, thus enforcing compliance and standardization.
