How's it going everybody Today we are going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Yakima BedRock HD Truck Bed Rack on our 2021 Ford F-150. This is gonna be a really nice solution for you if you want to get some larger items up on the top of your bed, still leaving room for the things inside, but still having access to those items that you wanna put on there. With a weight capacity on road of 300 pounds and an off-road capacity of 180 pounds, you really do have a good amount of options, especially with the bars that we have here. So let's take a closer look at how it works. Our crossbars are HD, which means they are heavy duty and they're really big and rugged. On the ends of them, we do have these posts, if we want to, we could strap some items down that we're storing on top of here, it's a nice feature.
They're big enough to where I feel comfortable having them support my items but they're also small enough that I can get most of my clamp around accessories on here. We do also have this T-track channel with the weather strip so if we have accessories with those T-track adapters, they can slide in here and store it that way. And when not in use, we have this weather strip to cut down on some of that wind noise and that drag. So it's nice that both of those options are available. The crossbars we're using with our system today are gonna be 78" long, which gives us tons of room for accessories to get on there, and just a little bit of overhang should you choose to want to put an item further over to the side to make it easier to access.
It does overhang past the overall width of our vehicle just a little bit but we're well within the mirrors, so I'm not gonna be super worried about that. We have our crossbar spread at around 28", which is a pretty universally good amount for different accessories, which we'll go into a little bit more detail about in the install portion. But we have it towards the back, both because the clamps do have a little bit of issue getting under the rails with the liner that we have in this truck, and it gives us more clearance to the cab in case we wanna get some larger items up here, whether that's a box, basket or something like a kayak on the sports and rec side. Just to give you a quick look at those clamps and the issues that you might run into under those rails. So they do have to fit up and underneath, and they are gonna be able to lock, each of the clamps does have a metal lock core to secure it.
You can see with this one, it's locked and I'm not able to activate the clamp, so I can't get the rack off of the rails. Overall, the process of getting the bed rack installed isn't too difficult as long as you're patient and you take the time to get the measurements the first time and you're not super worried about going back and getting them a second time 'cause the issue is that we will have to flip it over to finish that install which you'll see in just a second as we walk you through that process. For the install, we just want to first lay out everything that we're going to need so that we know where and what it is. Starting with our 78" heavy duty crossbars here, we have our clamps, the bolts for the clamps, keys to lock those up, we have a couple Allen keys, we have more clamp accessories, we have these adapters if we wanted to use this with rails, which in our case we won't need those, but I did wanna tell you what they were, and we have the towers. So our first step is going to be getting these towers under our crossbars.
First thing we need to do is use the smaller Allen key to loosen up our end cap here so that we can take that off. I have to loosen this up and then I'm gonna turn the whole crossbar over to get that bolt out. Now I'll get the end cap off and we wanna make sure that we slide one of the towers in facing this way. It'll be up against the rails like that. We'll just line up this plate with our channel underneath and then we want the other one to be facing the other way against the rails like this. Same thing though, line that plate up with that channel, slide it in place and now we will get our end caps back on. With our towers now on the underside of our crossbars, now we're gonna get it on and roughly in place. So where you put these is gonna vary based on what you want to get up here. So if we wanna get something like a bike rack or if we want to just get like a box or a basket, this spread is gonna differentiate, but for now I'm gonna shoot for anywhere from like 28" to 32" of spread between our crossbars 'cause that's sort of a universally solid amount. One other thing to c
