As this shows, cotton fabric can and will ignite, and continue to burn if exposed to an ignition source. The non-FR jeans are made of 100% cotton, and burn even after the source of flame is removed (left) while the FR jeans immediately self-extinguish (right). The test shows why it is important to protect the entire body with FR clothing when workers are performing tasks at or below waist level.
