Autoinflammatory diseases are rare disorders in which patients suffer recurrent, seemingly unprovoked episodes of fever and inflammation.
Our scientists were part of an international research team that discovered a new autoinflammatory disease – CRIA syndrome – and its genetic cause. The discovery could pave the way for a ‘precision’ medicine approach to treating autoinflammatory disease patients, and other diseases linked to cell death, such as colitis, arthritis and psoriasis.
The research, published in Nature, was led by Walter and Eliza Hall Institute researchers Dr Najoua Lalaoui and Professor John Silke, and Dr Dan Kastner, Dr Steven Boyden and Dr Hirostugu Oda from the National Institutes of Health, US.
