Thanks for help in making this impromptu video Mark Williams, it was a blast watching John in action! Things you can do with a cell phone and a GoPro.

John writes. What I am really doing is surveying the number of nesting pairs and monitoring their production. The only way to monitor the production is to actually go to the nest and banding the young helps as people do report bands so it gives information on where they go.

Mark Williams writes, Often there are people who do a lot of work for raptor conservation and yet whose work goes unsung. One such individual is John Campbell jnr. eldest son of the late John Campbell snr, who was one of the founding members of the Alberta Falconers Association and one of the first people to breed peregrine falcons in captivity back in 1972. It is therefor no surprise John jnr was influenced by his late fathers passion and he has been banding tens of thousands of raptors for over 40 years of his banding career and has amassed valuable data on the various species such as Peregrines,
Prairies, Golden Eagles and Ferruginous Hawks.

It's always a treat to go banding with John and this year was no different. I recently made a few trips and brought along my good friend and professional photographer Rob McKay. We managed to gather some cool video and images illustrating what John does for several weeks each spring/ summer on a voluntary basis and Rob has created this cool video to share.
