The Ithaca Model 37 was designed with a very key feature, the ability to eject and be loaded from the same opening. In fact, the opening is also strategically placed on the bottom of the reveiver. This feature made an impression on the U.S. military and police forces, because the single opening on the bottom would prevent dirt, sand, debris from entering the action.
The U.S. military would place an order for Ithaca model 37 trench guns in 1942, but then contract Ithaca to instead produce M1911A1 pistols. Under 1,500 Ithaca trench guns were made, making it a rare military shotgun.
The shotgun in the video is a vintage 1940 dated Ithaca Model 37. With its versatility, reliability and slam-fire feature, the Ithaca Model 37 is still a favorite with enthusiasts.
