I learned this classic country blues song off a Dave Van Ronk record in 1980. It was written in 1955 by Walter Brown "Brownie" McGhee, who is best know for his long-time collaboration with harmonica player Sonny Terry. The two toured together for over 20 years, and during the 1960s the two were popular on the concert and music festival circuit. Brownie's older brother, "Stick" McGhee, wrote "Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee," in 1947, which was later covered by Jerry Lee Lewis in 1959.
