Case Study: Alternative Fuels: quasar energy group
Bringing Energy Freedom to Ohio Businesses and Consumers
With many obstacles in the way, from production of natural gas to CNG, Clean Fuels Ohio provided the impetus for quasar to make the leap to vehicle fuel, and to work with the entities that would introduce this new technology throughout the state.
quasar energy group currently operates eight anaerobic digestion systems in Ohio, with an additional three under construction. The company also operates public CNG fueling stations in Columbus, Zanesville and Wooster, Ohio, and a private CNG fueling station in Cleveland.
As the unpredictable natural gas market continues to fluctuate in the United States, entrepreneurs have looked to alternative methods of supplying this demand. Anaerobic digestion and renewable natural gas (RNG), long a popular natural gas solution in Europe, has become an increasingly attractive alternative here as well. Ohio is a major player in this burgeoning RNG industry, producing natural gas and compressed natural gas (CNG) that can be used for transportation from farm, wastewater and food wastes.
"There are three primary issues affecting our quality of life today -- food, water and energy," said Mel Kurtz, president of Cleveland-based quasar energy group. "We can do something about energy right now. Our company can make the equivalent of 25,000 gallons of fuel a day from waste materials -- today."
