It's not ideal to try to pass the tube over the bougie blindly, so try to visualize the process the best you can.
With that being said, you can run into this problem even if you're visualizing the process (and during tube exchanges), and the fix is the same! Withdraw the tube slightly, rotate counterclockwise, and advance with the bevel down, sliding over the interarytenoid notch.
If you get caught on the anterior tracheal wall when entering the glottic opening, rotate again to soften the angle of the tube against the trachea.
