A re-anchor refers to any anchor rigged on a set of ropes, where those ropes have an anchor already established. Normally, re-anchors are rigged below the initial anchor, but they may be rigged at the same height. Re-anchors can be rigged to avoid rope hazards, or to position the worker. Another common application is on longer descents, in order to mitigate rope weight and rope stretch. When ropes are re-anchored, a loop of rope is created, and this loop should be as deep as practical, to avoid complicating access and rescue. Rigging one or both sides of a re-anchor so that they are releasable is recommended to facilitate rescue.
During the Level One training course, students receive hands on training on how to perform this and other maneuvers under the supervision of qualified IRATA & SPRAT instructors. All registered students will be granted access to the full length version of all Level One Training exercises videos which feature step by step instructions on each maneuver.
The Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA) and the Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians (SPRAT) are internationally recognized standards for rope access work. Certification is attained by completing a 4-day course, then passing a written, oral and practical test administered by an independent IRATA Assessor or SPRAT Evaluator.
