The construction and quarrying industries have conventionally been attributed to hazardous and physically demanding industries. Those who chose to work in either construction or quarrying were out on building sites, and at the mercy of the elements. Whilst this once might have been true, the industry is changing, rapidly.
Robotics, automation and computer technology is paving the way to an industry revolution. Digitisation is enabling the industry to attract a whole new demographic of workers and is bringing the outside, inside. New materials and new processes are being developed, structures are being assembled off-site in smart factories, and the industry is now appealing to Gen Z, CAD-Designers and engineers in other industries, as the next big thing in large-scale manufacturing.
BIM (building information modelling) is becoming DIN (digital information management). 3D printing is being used as a proven construction method, printing layers of concrete. Digital twins are enabling the realisation of prototypes and construction robots are improving the construction industry's efficiency and safety.
