I thought I'd fix my friend's Nexus 5 because she'd broken her screen and watched a tutorial on how to do it. When I had put all the components from the old phone housing into the new one I was faced with a battery symbol on the screen flashing on and off every 5 seconds or so. This only occurred when the power cable was plugged in.
I checked the forums and found one where someone had simply replaced the battery and all was good again. I say "simply" but you do have to disassemble the phone because the battery is not easily interchangeable. Still, I followed this advice and replaced the battery and it worked. So my friend now has a Nexus 5 with a new screen and a new battery.
I hope this helps someone in the event of it happening to them.
You can buy Nexus 5 batteries on eBay for around £12 (battery code BL-T9).
