Releasing flying-foxes back to the wild has to be the best part of this job and it makes my heart soar when I watch our now healthy wildies flying free.
We have enjoyed a fair bit of rain over the past couple of weeks and I have been waiting for that to clear before hard releasing these adults.
Rain washed the nectar and pollen out of the blossom and prolonged wet weather can make life difficult for flying-foxes.
With melaleucas now in full bloom and the last of the wet weather now passed, it's a great time to release back into our local colony.
How I love to watch them fly so strongly and confidently into the colony knowing that there is plenty of food out there for them and that they can continue on with with wild lives following their time in care.
