Due to the amount of projects going on in the area of Western Hollywood, Edward H. Fickett, FAIA designed and had built, a studio in the area in order to be closer to the work in what we now call West Hollywood. The result was the commercial office located at 9026 Melrose Avenue, West Hollywood, CA 90069.
Built in 1938, this is a prime example of how Mr. Fickett was truly ahead of his time with walls of windows able to slide fully open and the mixed use of resource materials creating a modern look. His achievements equally as impressive as his peers such as Neutra, Schindler, Wright and Jones, still lives as we are able to appreciate some of the work that remains intact within the West Hollywood area. There are not many of his building left, unfortunately as the City of West Hollywood is not as aggressive in Historic Preservation as it should.
As a realtor in the area with modernhomeslosangeles, it is important for me to advocate for Historical Preservation of our Mid-Century Modern architecture that seems to be disappearing on a daily basis as developers come in to bring their idea of 'New" and "Innovative", which the true result is typically boring and just a box housing fools who want to pay a lot of money for little in return.
