Sometimes retrieving dogs just get in the way early in a duck hunt. The first-light-rush of birds is best handled by shooters without a dog getting in the way. I like to tie my dog off to a tree close by where he cannot be seen by incoming ducks and won't get in our way as we are focusing on the first morning flights. Then when the hunt slows down I'll grab my dog and retrieve our kills.
