Children with the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) tend to avoid eye contact with people to prevent overwhelming themselves through excessive stimulation from their eyes.

This is an important skill for your child to pick up, so that they will not be seen as being rude, having a lack of interest and lack of empathy by their peers when they go into mainstream schooling.

Thus, it is important to maintain steady eye contact at a pace that your child will be comfortable with, to assist them in improving maintaining eye contact with other people.
