A compilation of every 'blip' Radiohead has used to promote their compilation KID A MNESIA and the accompanying interactive art exhibition of the same name. These short videos were posted on their official Twitter account between November 2nd and 17th 2021. The band originally used the same technique of using short videos like these to promote the release of Kid A in 2000, when the clips would appear between commercials and television content on the likes of MTV; startling, unsettling and intriguing unsuspecting viewers. Some of those early blips appear in this very video, the rest can be found in other similar compilations on YouTube.
I always found the blips to be fascinating and inspirational. I loved the strange world they allowed me to imagine, even in spite of the underlying tones of apocalypse and evil. I even included an analysis of Kid A's marketing technique as part of my media studies coursework in college, which gave me the opportunity to show those videos to a bunch of classmates. I ultimately got a really good grade and was able to send myself off to university.
2021 has been a very tough year for me personally, even on top of the current worldwide pandemic. I've been through the darkest days of my entire life and even considered ending it. But here I am, December of this year, walking through a beautiful, abstract, carefully detailed love letter to two of my favourite albums from my childhood, and these brand new blips are the cherry on top. I'm very glad I'm still here. Thank you Radiohead.
