You probably know but just in case you don’t, my name is Michele Burghardt from the savvy mind.com, hypnosis & coaching. And as always I appreciate you joining me.
Over the week-end I was fortunate enough to babysit my 7 year old grandson. And it never ceases to amaze me the depth of conversations we have over pancakes from time to time – and this week end was one of those times.
What started off as a very chit chatty breakfast turned into Colton, the 7 year old reminding me of why I do what I do for a living. Here’s part of the conversation.
Grandma, Billy told me people don’t change – but I don’t agree.
Oh really, what do you think?
I think people can change. And he said this with 100% certainty.
You do, do you?
Yes, all you have to do is say stop it . . . . and do something different. Then you’ll be able to change how you do things?
I’m not gonna lie – when I heard this, my mouth dropped open. I almost didn’t know what to say.
This very insightful 7 year old totally nailed it.
When you tell yourself to Stop it – it’s called a pattern interrupt – and it gets your attention on the conscious and subconscious level. This is a great tool to use if you find yourself trash talking yourself too. Just tell yourself to Stop.
And doing something different is the key. Because if you keep doing what you’re doing – you’ll keep getting the same results. This isn’t rocket science.
When I finally got over the shock of what he said, I was able to tell him how smart he was – Then of course, he went back to being a 7 year old and started farting on his arm.
The crazy thing is that this isn’t the first time he’s made a comment like this – I wish I could take credit for his mindfulness, but I actually think it’s his school. The cool thing that is happening though I think is a result of my job, is that Colton's dad – my son, is starting to embrace success science. I think he might just be doing it to hedge his bets, – but it doesn’t really matter why he’s doing it. It just matters that he is.
So I guess the lesson here is we’re never too young or too old to use our brain to help us create the life we want and reach our goals. In my case, it’s spanning across 3 generations.
And even if you’re not all Zen like – it doesn’t matter. The transformation happens either way
So I invite you to look for opportunities in your day-to-day activities to embrace success science. Set your intention at the beginning of the day that today will be positive and let your brain work out the details. That’s what it does best.
