Although commonly performed in the outpatient setting, hospital inpatients often undergo bronchoscopic procedures that can present challenges for the coder. With often scant documentation and potential DRG impact depending on which body part is selected in the coding process, the coder needs to understand and code these procedures correctly.

Objectives:
Review respiratory anatomy compared to the ICD-10-PCS body part values;
Describe common procedures performed through a bronchoscope;
Discuss the appropriate body part and reimbursement impact for procedures, such as bronchoalveolar lavage and transbronchial biopsy
