Today I'm building a garden arbour for my new cottage garden. This will add a lot of structure to to my garden space and provide a place to grow climbing plants.
I purposely designed this arbour to work in a medium sized setting so that it wouldn't feel too big. But I also made sure to make it sturdy enough that it would last.
This design has some tricky parts that would be easier with a second set of hands. Some alterations could be made to simplify the design for less experienced DIYers. 2" x 4" posts make this build more affordable than using 4" x 4" posts. If you change your mind at the end of the season you can move the garden arbour to a different location for next year. Longer skids and staking might be required for windy places - use your own judgement.
Features:
- Wire mesh trellises for climbing plants
- Movable, not built as a permanent structure
- Sturdy design, built to last
- Designed for a smaller space so it's not overbearing
- Visually and physically not too heavy
- 2" x 4" and 1" x 2" construction, No 4" x 4" posts!
