[TRANSCRIPT] I did some research trying to see if there were different programs out here. And then when I saw the DPA program, I wasn't for sure if I was going to qualify. It's weird how often you're told that you don't qualify because you make too much money and it's just me in my household.
When I first began and I contacted MSHDA to find out about the program, I actually was comfortable with the lady that I spoke with. She was great. She answered all my questions. She made me feel like I could possibly qualify.
But I tried it and applied. And I was surprised I was actually approved.
Then I actually had to take a class. I learned a lot about financing and how to save money.
And then the next process was to find a lender. I wanted to make the home the way I like it, and the only way for me to do that was to purchase a home. It is a three bedroom ranch. I have a semi finished basement. I have one and a half baths. I have a nice backyard.
When I first walked through my doors after signing my paperwork, knowing that this was my house, my first thought was, yes, I can change this. I can change that. I redo this.
I still need to redo the kitchen. I've done some painting. I've had some floor work done. But at the end of the day, now I know that I can do it. It's my home. And when I wake up, it puts a smile on my face.
It's a little scary sometimes, but I look back and I see the investments that I made. So now I can actually look around my home and I can see the things that I worked hard for. And I'm happy with that. I'm looking forward to the future.
And I will tell you this. Try it. Do not give up. This has been a life change for me.
Don't get down. Make the phone calls, make the efforts and become a happy homeowner as well.
