Why is Raphael famous?

Born Raffaello Sanzio da Urbine in 1483, history remembers him as simply Raphael.

Raphael was an extremely well accomplished painter and all around renaissance man.

He moved around Italy, even working for the papacy is Rome.

Here is his portrait of Pope Julius II from 1512.

His best known work is The School of Athens.

Raphael died at only 37 in 1520, but his many works remain to this day to inspire new generations.
