Bobsy Gaia is a passionate eco-entrepreneur whose driving motivation is to raise environmental awareness. With Breakfast with Bobsy, he introduces personalities and leaders in the community who have helped what he sees as a global shift in consciousness, and discusses what others can do in their own lives to continue the shift.
Peggy sits down with Bobsy a few days after super typhoon Mangkhut had severely hit HK on September 16th, 2018 to chat about the ups & downs of operating a conscious business & the challenges of eco-friendly health restaurants in HK.
There will always be an insightful & inspiring spark when Peggy & Bobsy meet, this time was no exception. A must see for any budding eco/health entrepreneurs emerging on the local scene.

About Bobsy
During the past 26 years, he has called Hong Kong his home and has spearheaded campaigns dedicated to clean ups, recycling & protecting the local lands from bad-development and successfully petitioning against the reclamation of Lamma Island’s bay areas in 1994 and 2003, respectively. His ABLE charity has since evolved into an annual tree planting drive that re-forested the northern hills of the island from its former barren state, into a lush green & healthy forest that it is today.
In 2008, he wrote and produced a documentary “Save the Human!” on the environmental impact of the meat and dairy industry. The documentary went on to win the “Best Documentary” award at the I SHOT HK Film Festival. Bobsy is credited as being a pioneer of Hong Kong’s conscious businesses & the organic vegetarian movement, having launched its first fully vegetarian community lifestyle the Bookworm Cafe in 1997, and Soho’s beloved Life Cafe, where now-common options like quinoa and gluten-free were first introduced to the city.
Currently, he runs three restaurants under the MANA! umbrella, all of which uphold his “Zero Food Waste” philosophy, donating several tonnes of kitchen scraps for composting per month to community organic farm projects in the New Territories. By operating socially responsible restaurants serving delicious, accessible food that don’t include meat and dairy products, Bobsy is determined to make small but sure changes to the community.
Bobsy is a frequent speaker on conscious change and social entrepreneurship at schools and universities, government departments, and other platforms.
