Communication skills begin long before young children speak their first word. Research indicates that the complexity of language input – how rich and descriptive our language is during interactions with children – is a significant factor that influences the development of the brain area related to language. What does this mean as Early Childhood educators and parents? Our communication must be intentional, meaning we speak with awareness of our purpose and goal. This training will explore the following:
-Review how communication and language skills develop in the first 3 years
-Explore the brain’s role in the development of these skills
-Understand communication milestones from birth to 3 years
-Learn strategies to support early communication skills
