From Marilyn Monroe to Muhammad Ali, Andy Warhol painted nearly every major celebrity of his time. By the 1980s, the artist became a global star in his own right, and in his 1986 Fright Wig series, he presented himself as a monument to the ages: as Warhol the icon. Ahead of the Contemporary Art Evening Auction on 17 November, which features Warhol’s Self-Portrait (Fright Wig), watch the video to hear why Eric Shiner of Sotheby’s Private Sales, Contemporary Art, believes this work is tremendous in size and meaning.
