The psychological gesture can be used for all micro and macro elements of acting. Here we explore it’s connection to the character as a whole. The world of gesture is alive all around us in life. It is the atomic expression of the aura’s intention in all animate and inanimate objects. Plants have a gesture of reaching for the sun. Chairs, roads, people, there is an electro-magnetic sphere (aura) with a shape and directional to it in every element of life. Imagery and colors often accompany these gestures but only if inspired, not forced. Observe these in nature to unlock this nature of the actor’s mind, which Chekhov calls the actor’s true talent and art. The power of gesture is endless and bountiful; actors like Jack Nicholson, Johnny Depp, Clint Eastwood, Marilyn Monroe and Gregory Peck all use it!
