Here’s how I experienced some Danish Christmas cheer while not in Denmark. I along with Danes that live in the New York tri-state area went to the Christmas Fair at the Danish Seaman Church in Brooklyn. It is sort of like a mini Danish Christmas market transplanted to
America.
They sold Danish Christmas decorations and Décor including Christmas napkins, holiday cards, calendar candles, Nisse figurines and homemade ornaments.
They sold Christmas treats and candies including yule calendars as well authentic Danish food including pork roasts pickled beets and the pickled cucumbers and a number of other Danish items like remoulade, bread mixes and canned mackerel that are really only available in Denmark.
They had a food court where I got to eat Aebleskiver, Risalamande, Danish pastries, mulled wine and of course a Danish hotdog.
My girlfriend gets so excited for this Christmas fair because they have all sorts of things that remind her of Denmark, Danish Christmas, Danish hygge and her childhood.
