(26 Jul 2014) An Israeli airstrike on a vehicle in Gaza City killed at least one person in the early hours of Saturday morning, an AP Television cameraman on the scene reported.
AP Television pictures showed the moment the blast struck, followed by scenes of the aftermath as rescue workers surveyed the burnt out wreckage of the car.
Local residents picked up small pieces of human flesh at the scene of the explosion.
"We were safely sitting around and suddenly we heard a big explosion," said local resident Hani Al Jalees.
"We looked from the balcony and we saw a civilian car was targeted with one person inside. It was targeted. We went down to help put out the fire, and we found a completely burned body."
Meanwhile, the Israeli military said a 12-hour humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza would start on Saturday morning.
The military said in a statement that the lull would start at 8 a.m. Local time on Saturday and end at 8 p.m. local time.
The statement warned that the military "shall respond if terrorists choose to exploit" the lull to attack Israeli troops "or fire at Israeli civilians".
It also said that "operational activities to locate and neutralise tunnels in the Gaza Strip will continue".
A Hamas spokesman, Sami Abu Zuhri, said earlier on Friday that the group had agreed to a 12-hour lull, starting at 8 a.m. local time on Saturday.
Earlier on Friday, US Secretary of State John Kerry failed to broker a week-long truce as a first step toward a broader deal, while Israel's defence minister warned that Israel might soon expand its Gaza ground operation "significantly".
In Gaza, Israeli airstrikes and tank shelling have killed more than 860 Palestinians, wounded more than 5,700, displaced tens of thousands and destroyed hundreds of homes, Palestinian officials said.
Gaza militants have fired close to 2,500 rockets at Israel since July 8, exposing most of Israel's population to an indiscriminate threat that has killed three civilians.
Thirty-six Israeli soldiers have also been killed in Gaza Strip.
