Pussy Riot is a Russian feminist protest punk rock and performance art group based in Moscow. Founded in August 2011, Pussy Riot has had a variable membership of approximately 11 women , and is famous for staging unauthorized, provocative guerrilla gigs in public places. The group gained global notoriety when five members of the group staged a performance inside Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Saviour on February 21, 2012. The group's actions were quickly stopped by church security officials, and condemned as sacrilegious by the Orthodox clergy. The women said that their protest was directed at the Orthodox Church leaders' support for Putin during his election campaign. Three members of Pussy Riot were arrested and convicted of "hooliganism motivated by religious hatred", and sentenced to two years' imprisonment.
Towards the end of the court case, Pussy Riot released a single in August 2012 "Путин зажигает костры" ("Putin Lights Up The Fires"), to which you may listen here: [ Ссылка ]
