Scottie Barnes made an All Star team at 22. This is rarified air. At his absolute best, he's as good as they come. A dominant, downhill athlete who can play 1-5 and put up 20 points in a quarter, playmake like a wizard, and pick up full court. He skies through the air for thunderous blocks, takes 3 dribbles and clears the entire court.
Indeed, at his best, there are only 5 players you think of when you watch a GOOD Scottie Barnes game; Luka Doncic, Magic Johnson, LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo. But then there's that other Scottie.. the unassertive one who shoots 1/7 for a quarter, can't create separation and defers to Jalen McDaniels. That's the frustrating Scottie Barnes.
So, I thought, who better to offer a fair critique of Scottie Barnes and all the things he has to fix than someone who has been watching him since grade 10 and is admittedly, a bit of a Scottie superfan. And I want to talk about the monumental LEAPS he's taken this offseason as a player and leader.
An MVP season is coming within the next 24 months. I'm positive it's coming. And don't say I didn't warn you when it does.
