Pakistani TV dramas have been a very successful visual medium for decades. It highlighted the amazing talents of actors, writers, and directors and also served as an accessible form of entertainment that represented the culture of our society. All of that was quite acceptable and accessible to both urban and rural audiences. Our drama producers and writers also fully accepted their responsibility, which made a positive impact on society through dramas and played a significant role in raising awareness.
So what happened to our dramas? Was it an Indian attack? Was it a multimedia attack? Or the supremacy of television that deprived our dramas of the meaning of our parents?
Many people criticize the current dramas which are shot in foreign places because they feel that these dramas are not related to the reality of 80% of the population of Pakistan.
The race for ratings has ruined us, and the quality and the art of storytelling in a drama has suffered because people are now more concerned with the numbers than the craft.
As far as PTV is concerned, total negligence destroyed the government institution. We didn't take care of our parent company PTV, we didn't train the next generation and made the wrong choice. Ignoring the play was one of them. With 100% of its dramas being produced at one time, the channel is now down to less than 20%.
