In Hillsborough County, if you're ordered to a mediation in a family law or divorce case and you proceed with the mediation at the courthouse, then the fee exposure would be either $120 per party or $60 per party depending on what their collective income is. If you file an affidavit of indigence and you are found to be indigent, then the fee may be waived. If you go to a private mediation, then the fee is going to be substantially higher than a mediation at the courthouse; however, when the stakes are high with regard to children and/or assets, even if the cost is higher it is better in the long run to go with private mediation.
