To produce even more realistic estimations, a new option is available in kriging which takes faults into account. These faults represent barriers (for example, geological faults, watershed boundaries, canyons, or rivers) which may influence local interpolations. They are defined as portions of the space which can interrupt the geographical continuity of a variable. They are used as "screens" when searching for neighbors during estimation. A sample won’t be used as neighboring data if the segment joining it to the target intersects a fault.
