None of us likes to lose in video games, and even less if we see game over screens that make us so incomfortable...
In general, one of the last things you want to do in a video game is die. It stops forward momentum, forces you to rebuild the terrain and, in terms of a difficulty spike, can become somewhat annoying. While games as a whole need some challenge to push the player and death isn't going to go away, some games take the opportunity to make that state of failure, that end-game screen, a part of making you feel really helpless, sad, and even a sense of utter failure.
For this video I explored the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) catalog, looking for the most disturbing, harshest and depressing game over screens. Do not watch the video if you are too sensitive!
