The Retired Faculty Association’s Intellectual Journey on Feb. 6, 2024 was with Professor of Mathematics, Susan Montgomery from USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.
With nine sole-authored, edited, or coedited books and over 100 articles to her credit, she is internationally recognized for her contributions in noncommutative algebra and hopf algebras. Among her outstanding accomplishments are the Albert S. Raubenheimer Distinguished Senior Faculty award in Dornsife College (1984), election to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2012), and the Gabilan Distinguished Professorship in Science and Engineering (2017-2020).
The first tenured woman professor in Mathematics at USC, she has played a significant role in the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) program since its inception in 2000. In her more than fifty years on the USC faculty, she has made many important contributions to her department, the College, and the university through mentoring and service.
