Women like me don’t become lawyers
I was suspended from school more times than I can count. Detention was a part of my daily routine. I talked back to teachers, I skipped class to do hoodrat things with my hoodrat friends, and my grades were the definition of average.
I can’t really describe the exact moment that things started to turn around for me.
But, I do always remember the mentors I met along the way.
The coaches who said they would kick me off the track team if I was caught skipping class one more time.
The teachers who said that my misbehavior was misguided and should be refocused towards studying.
My mom, who told me that I was smart and that I could achieve anything I wanted #millenialsterotypes
So, now, I’d like to be a mentor to you.
I’d like to say that I’ve learned a few things since I graduated from law school exactly five years ago today. (pictured above)
