New Ukulele Tutorials every Wednesday and Saturday
Today we are going to learn how to play one of my favorite songs from songs from the year 1972, a year that was stacked with a ton of amazing songs. The song was orginally written by Sherman Kelly in 1970 and recorded by Kelly's band Boffalongo, it was rerecorded in 1972 by King Harvest and went to number 5 in Canada and 13 in USA. In 2000 it was recorded by the English band Toploader but nothing beats those very cool organ chops from the 1972 version. King Harvest also has an interesting story, forming in Ithica New York before breaking up and later reforming in Paris (the S is silent!) France.
In 1969 Sherman was jumped by a gang while in St. Croix, a gang that eventually went on to kill 8 American tourists, and they left him for dead. While recovering in the hospital from serious injuries such as facial fractures he wrote this song were he dreamed of an alternate universe were everybody could just get along.
