Teleschaphe underwater cable car? Calanque National Park extends 20 km (12 miles) from Marseille to Cassis and includes surface and underwater adventures. It’s a great trip by boat from the Vieux Port, the old port, Marseilles
Calanque is a Ligurian word for a steep sloping cove.
Calanques are giant limestone reefs that were buried and formed into rock. They were then lifted up and turned at a sharp angle when Africa colided with Europe. Eroded into steep limestone valleys and filled with water as sea level rose after the ice ages.
Now they are the beautiful coves we enjoy today.
BTW the Teleschaphe was an underwater cable car ride. Small cars with plexiglass windows were held at atmospheric pressure. People walked on and took a ride across Cap croisette at 10' below sea level! It lasted 1 year, 1967 and before the owners were underwater! Crazy!
