You wish to take the IELTS and you are wondering how the scoring system works? GlobalExam has exactly what you need!
The IELTS test is marked out of 9, unlike any other English language exam. A score of 1 corresponds to the lowest level and a score of 9 corresponds to the highest level.
On your results certificate, you will be able to see 5 scores :
Four of them correspond to the four sections of the exam: Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, and are each marked out of 9.
The 5th score is called the overall IELTS band score, and is just an average of the other 4 scores. It is marked from 1 to 9 as well.
Each subscore is worth the same as the others, and all the scores are rounded to the nearest half point.
You can also convert the IELTS score to the CEFR grading scale:
A2 = minimum score of 2
B1 = score between 4 and 5
B2 = score between 5 and 6.5
C1 = score between 7 and 8
C2 = score between 8 and 9
