Even if you HATE the show, you've gotta love when fight choreo reveals something the dialogue doesn't. IMO the Mae vs Qimir fight scene at the end of episode 2 is THE MOST IMPORTANT fight in The Acolyte so far.
Most people probably don't even consider those 3 moves a fight, so why is it more important than the epic ones?
The choreography. The fight choreography either reveals something super important or it undermined two whole episodes of character development.
🤷♂️I'm not saying it CAN'T be the latter, but if there's one thing they're paying close attention to, it's the fight scenes, so my money is on this being intentional.🤷♂️
Here we go:
⭐🌘My Fight Choreography-Inspired Acolyte Theory🌒⭐
🚨🚧Spoilers for The Acolyte episodes 1 & 2 (I didn't get early access to the first 4 episodes like a lot of YouTubers did so I've only seen the first 2).
If I'm RIGHT it will spoil who the main villain turns out to be.🚧🚨
Near the end of The Acolyte episode 2 Mae tries to ambush Qimir (her “supplier” played by Manny Jacinto).
🎉🔪SURPRISE ATTACK!🎉🔪
Even though Qimir wasn't looking, he dodged the first attack like it was nothing. The second strike he catches and counters, pinning Mae against the wall with her own blade against her neck.
🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️WHAT?🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
This is the same Mae who ANNOUNCED to Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) that she wanted to fight, started out without a weapon, and won.🔪⚰️
But she's no match for Qimir when she tries to stab him in the back from the shadows?🤺😈
That's suspicious, dude.
Mae also Force pushed Indara across a room, smashing her into a wall, but she CAN'T overpower little ol' Qimir? (K, Manny Jacinto is actually a buffed but they're deliberately making him look puny with his costume and posture.)🏋️♂️
Jedi Master Indara had Mae (Amandla Stenberg) in a similar position right before that Force push BTW.🤫
Anyway...
🔪🎳🧱After Qimir pins Mae to the wall he's all, “I can make it up to you. Let's go to Wookie-ville,” but the same lines would have worked just as well if HE was the one pinned against the wall with a knife to his throat.🔪🎳🧱
Whether you love or hate Star Wars: The Acolyte, they ARE paying a lot of attention to the details in the fight scenes. That attention to detail is why I believe Qimir coming out on top so easily is a deliberate choice, NOT a mistake that undermines everything they've done to build up Mae's abilities.
I mean, it could be the latter, but I doubt it.
And if you're all “Moke Vgenda” about the show, fine, but then wouldn't it make even more sense for them to have Mae win this fight scene?
🕵️♂️There's a reason she doesn't.🕵️♂️
🥷QIMIR is the one who trained Mae (Amandla Stenberg)!🥷
👺QIMIR is going to be the main villain!👺
Is Qimir technically a Sith? Not sure. But he's a better fighter than Mae, so he's at least better than Master Indara.
😭Remember how Qimir BEGS Jedi Master Sol, “Please don't do the memory wipe thing. Or whatever it is you guys do.”
Why would he think that's a viable option to them? Because that's what HE does to Mae.👿
Kind of like when one politician accuses their rival of something, then later on you find out the accuser was doing that very thing all along.
Qimir wipes Mae's memory, then supervises/puppeteers her while pretending to merely be an underling assigned to help her with her mission and relay some messages.📮✉️✉️
Love or even HATE The Acolyte, you've gotta admit that it's great when pieces of storytelling and character revelation happen through fight choreography instead of just:
-Exposition.🗣️
-Fight fight fight.👊👊👊
-Now we sit and give more exposition.🗣️
(Speaking of Carrie-Anne Moss fights, that pattern of sit down for exposition, stand up and fight, sit down for more exposition was literally the entire Matrix Reloaded.)
This is, of course, assuming I'm right. Maybe's it's all Osha and she's delusional...
Ugh. I hope the writing isn't that lazy.
