A Time-Lapse from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory
Experience 133 days of solar activity from August to December 2022, as captured by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). This breathtaking time-lapse video showcases the Sun's bright active regions passing across its face as it rotates, and the magnetic fields that trap hot, glowing plasma. Shot in 4K x 4K resolution, the video highlights the Sun's outermost atmospheric layer, the corona, at an extreme-ultraviolet wavelength of 17.1 nanometers. With a triad of instruments, SDO captures the Sun's images every 0.75 seconds, enabling scientists to make countless new discoveries about our closest star and its influence on the solar system.
