The wire mother cloth mother experiment or formally known as the wire mother experiment is one of the most renowned psychology experiments in scientific history. Wire mother experiment was conducted by experimenter Harry Harlow from the University of Wisconsin Madison it challenged the behaviorism theory on attachment along with John Bowlby and B F Skinner. The study involves pairing the monkeys with wire-mother and cloth-mother surrogates to study contact comfort and attachment theory. For some, the experiments Harlow conducted were horrifying which raises the question of ethics violations. Furthermore, after the wire mother experiment, Harlow devised Pit of Despair which contrasts his achievements from the wire mother study and quickly gained a reputation as the dark side of science.
