Їхав козак за Дунай, translated as "The Cossack Rode beyond the Danube", is a song of a Cossack who is going to war and has to choose to either stay with his love, or go fight the Turks. The Danube here is more symbolic, as in other Cossack songs and poems, the Danube is meant to represent a "point of no return", where people were within the clutches of the Ottoman sultan.
May the Cossack and Ukrainian spirit endure!
