0:00 Introduction
How is kinking in IJV chemoport avoided?
While creating a subcutaneous tunnel, the tunneler is usually pushed directly from the infraclavicular chamber side in a straight path. This can create an acute bend in some patients.
To avoid this kink, the direction is changed, and the tunneler is pushed laterally. This ensures the tunneler is in a lateral position for 1 to 2 cm. From here, it can be pushed to the lateral side.
We prefer using a larger incision at the neck puncture site for this. The same technique can be used on both sides.
3:10 Conclusion
Avoiding kinking in an IJV chemoport is crucial for ensuring smooth functionality and patient comfort. By modifying the approach during the creation of a subcutaneous tunnel, specifically by pushing the tunneler laterally for a short distance before advancing it, we can effectively prevent the formation of acute bends. Using a slightly larger incision at the neck puncture site further facilitates this technique, making it applicable to either side of the body. These adjustments in the procedure help maintain the integrity of the chemoport and optimize its performance.
