[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE]
NB. THIS IS A VOICEOVER TRANSCRIPT, NOT A FULL SHOT LIST.
FLAGS OUTSIDE THE U-S CAPITOL FLY AT HALF-STAFF IN MEMORY OF SENATOR EDWARD KENNEDY, WHO DIED TUESDAY NIGHT AT AGE 77. A FLAG ATOP THE WHITE HOUSE HAS ALSO BEEN LOWERED TO REMEMBER THE MAN KNOWN AS THE "LION OF THE SENATE."
WHILE KENNEDY IS GONE, HE'S BEING REMEMBER FOR THE CONTRIBUTIONS HE MADE OVER THE THREE-AND-A-HALF DECADES HE SERVED IN THE SENATE.
(SOT: Dwight Powell, works at LOC)
(19:49) I was very saddened by it. But I was thankful for his family because they have done great work in terms of helping negroes and then blacks to achieve much in this country.
OUTSIDE THE NEWSEUM, NEWSPAPERS FROM EVERY STATE IN THE COUNTRY CARRY THE HEADLINES OF KENNEDY'S DEATH.
THIS BOSTON NATIVE WAS AMONG THOSE READING THE FRONT PAGES.
(SOT: Matt Oheigeartaigh/Boston native)
(9:03:57) It's sad. He did a lot for Massachusetts. A lot for the country. He showed that legislator doesn't need to do what's best for the state as opposed to what's best for the country. Show that you can do both at the same time.
WHILE KENNEDY LOOMED LARGE IN AMERICAN POLITICS, SOME VISITORS SAY THE KENNEDY FAMILY LEGACY WILL NOT BE DIMINISHED WITH HIS PASSING.
(SOT: Mark Anderson/Arlington)
(9:02:14) I think everybody will remember what the Kennedys have done, so I don't think it's lost forever.
WITH CONGRESS OUT OF SESSION, AND THE DEATH OF KENNEDY, THE HALLWAY OUTSIDE HIS OFFICE SEEMS ESPECIALLY QUIET--AND A PLAQUE IN GAELIC STILL READS, "A HUNDRED THOUSAND WELCOMES."
